Caveolin-1, a component of caveolae, regulates signaling pathway compartmentalization by
interacting with tyrosine (Tyr) kinase receptors and their substrates. Perturbations in
caveolae lipid composition have been shown in vitro to displace proteins from lipid
microdomains, thereby altering their functionality and subsequent downstream signaling.
